Started in 2016, in Palavakkam, The Learning Community at Quest is a vibrant space that brings together different learners who are actively engaged in learning a variety of skills in many different ways.
The success inspired us to curate our unique after-school programme in 2017 — the Individualised Engagement Programme (IEP). Inspired by self-directed learning, IEP is designed to encourage every child to take charge of their own learning journey, with or without the assistance of others, by identifying their learning goals, choosing their mode of learning, and evaluating their own performance and outcomes as well.
When we first began merging tech into our IEP, we soon realised the lack of a safe and comprehensive cyber learning space for children. This motivated us to create a fun and safe learning app in 2018 — BREADCRUMB: THE LEARNING APP.
Aimed at encouraging children to be independent learners, the app is available worldwide on the App Store and accessible on all browsers. The unique features of the platform include setting limits on screen time, a checklist for materials required for each activity, recording notes (photos, recording audio, doodling), and a Schedule Section which helps the learner prioritise their learning goals.
The success of the IEP encouraged us to start our full-time flagship programme, The Unschooling Project in 2021, when we moved to our new space in Besant Nagar, a landmark building that has been dynamically designed to enable learning and exploration of a wide range of skills and interest areas. Designed as a collection of free-flowing volumes that give a feeling of space and visual connectivity, with each space seamlessly blending into the next, the ample natural light and the use of colour lend to a sense of openness and fun. The Quest building was selected as Jury winner and recognised as an ideal option for learning on a worldwide architecture platform.
